Easy to use and beautiful golden colour - really happy with the results
This is a brilliant wood preserver. It's easy to apply and the colour is absolutely gorgeous. It's a rich, warm golden brown that really makes the colours in the garden (flowers, plants, etc.) pop against it. It also makes the fence look much more polished and high-end. Have a look at the photos for the before and after! The fence soaked it up straight away and it was clear it really needed it. The reason I purchased this brand is because the previous owners of our house had painted the fence with the same product a few years ago. But I guess it inevitably wears off after a while. The fence was definitely dry and ready for a fresh coat. I used a fence-paintbrush to paint it on. The consistency is quite thin (see video of me pouring it out) so it did splatter a bit, but it wasn’t a problem as I was working over soil and flowerbeds. It went on easily and gave really good coverage. I’ll definitely use it again in a few years when it needs another refresh, but for now, I’m really pleased with the result.

Good oil base, non diluted.
Good coverage and quite economical. Covered large area of fencing, both sides. 1 coat using roughly half. Will cover second coat sufficiently. Nice product.

Barretine wood preserver.
I haven't used this product before. The brand was recommended to me. Rather pleased with it. Went on the wood well and the smell wasn't too over powerful. I will be using it again. Very satisfied with the product.

A wood preservative that works.
Powerful wood preservative. I've used it on fence posts and a rose arch and find that the timber is still in good condition after several years. I would recommend this excellent product

Really Nourishing - Recommended!
I think this is brilliant. I used it on a new summerhouse, not previously treated, smooth sawn wood. The first coat seemed to be a bit wishy-washy, and the colour seemed more like a dark oak than black, but I'd not stirred or shaken it, and the new wood was sucking it in. The second coat went on so much easier and you could really see it nourishing the wood. The colour deepened with the second coat and looks very natural with the grain showing through. This type of preserver was recommended to me by the summerhouse manufacturer, and I can see why. I've yet to see how it performs over the winter, but so far so good. It supposedly has around a 5 year protection period as opposed to paints like Cuprinol which is only around a year. It goes a long way, I've only used just over half a 5l tin on two coats of a 18 x 8 shed (see pictures). Just now wanting to finish off the trims with a white water-based wood dye before finishing with a clear top coat from the same manufacturer. I can't be bothered generally with leaving reviews but I think this deserves it. I know one or two people complained about the thinness of it, and the colour, but I think if you stick with it and trust the process (and give an extra coat) you'll see the effect properly. Definitley worth the money, and I'm hoping I've finally found a solution to my decking maintenance problem, too. Never yet been able to make it look nice for any length of time, but I have faith in this. If you're wondering, just buy.

Highly recommended for sleepers
Used on sleepers, easy to apply and spreads well, it appears to soak in well to the timber. Time will tell in terms of preserving the softwood sleepers. The clear coats make them slightly darker, the 'oil' finish does not dry as such, but appears to shed the water well.

Excellent wood preservative.
Tradesmen recommended Barratine to me as their preferred brand of wood treatment, because it's oil based and more durable than water based products of other brands. Though they are not cheapest, Barratine, overall, produce superior products. I contacted Barratine before purchasing this wood preserve to ensure that I had the right product to protect fresh cut Douglas Fir for a new garden deck. The photos show the incomplete construction of my new deck with 2 applications of Barratine Golden Brown on fresh cut undressed Douglas Fir, which I'm really pleased with. I shall apply a 3rd coat after the wood and preservative have fully dried, which may be a few weeks. Douglas Fir does have a natural resilience against rot and beasties, but I applied the Barratine to give added protection and increase the longevity of the deck and also to add colour. Barratine customer support advised that I use a lighter stain as it is easier to darken the wood than to lighten the wood if I didn't like the stain colour. Personally I really like the warm colour of the Golden Brown. Most importantly they helped me identify the right product for the job as I was treating fresh cut wood that had not been pressure treated. The Barratine stain on my garden shed (in photo) is suited to pressure treated wood where there's no human contact with the wood, where it would otherwise rub off on clothes etc ie it's not suitable for wooden deck furniture or Decking boards, whereas Barratine Wood Preserve is intended to cope with wear and tear of Decking boards. I was advised that next year I might add a coat of Barratunec deck oil, which I shall do. The Barratine website has a very helpful stain colour chart that not only shows the different stains available, but how they will appear on dressed and undressed wood. Please note that the stains will appear darker on undressed wood. I really like Barratine stains because they really bring out the natural beauty and character of the wood. I personally dislike painted wood because wood has its own natural beauty. The Barratine products enhance the natural beauty of wood.

Wood Preserver for garden fence
This clear wood Preserver has worked very well on my garden fence. It's not the cheapest but looks and feels better than Preserver I have previously used. I applied it by brush and it went on well. Just got to see how it goes through this summer and subsequent winter, but currently very happy. Item came well packaged with quick delivery.
