How much distance is recommended between the top of your knees to your desk in order to have proper function of the pedal machine?

That is going to depend on a number of factors...the length of your leg from the bottom of your foot to the top or your knee/thigh when sitting and the height of the underside or your desk. The height from floor to top of pedal at peak, is approx 12"-12 1/2". So, if you measure the height of the top of your knee and add 12 1/2" to that, you will know how much clearance you require. My desks here have 27" and 25" (drawer under) height from the floor. Based on my leg measurement, I cannot have it fully under my desk and have to have it out from underneath partially to use it. I don't find that an issue as I can move my keyboard/mouse when working and pedaling. I also use it mainly when on tcons as well as it is nice and quiet. Working at home these days has one moving less and less, so being able to use this while at home/work, is great.

It comes as pictured. It's put together, but it can collapse for storage, so you do have to pop out the legs.

I have two questions. Is the rubber insulating or does this heat up after prolonged use? Do you feel the change in resistance? Thank you!

No it doesn't heat up. As for the resistance you just set it where you want and it doesn't change.
