Is this plastic similar to the type you store food in?

It’s similar to the plastic used for drawers in a refrigerator. It’s hard plastic.

Since the handles go in, what is the actual measurement of the space available from the indented handle to handle?

Only one end goes in and the other end goes out. I assume to be able to slide one end into the other. As for usable space it’s a little over 10-1/2 inches long and 5-3/4 inches wide.

Perfect for small refrigerators

I've had the refrigerator organizers for years now and the are the perfect size for a small fridge and freezer. I organize all my lunch meats, cheeses, and fruits all together in their own bins. Their functionality is perfect for knowing what you have and purchasing food you already have. The are easy to use and stack side-by-side with ease. The use makes the simple but affective.
