Overall, I'm delighted with this thing. It is economical, effective, simple to use-- and actually fun! I tried and despised the Airless, so this is a huge improvement. The Freestyle gets hot fast, but even at the highest setting it does not feel like it's damaging my hair. I can twirl or slide it through quite rapidly and I suspect that my hair is barely making direct contact with hot surfaces. It's just a smart design. It smooths, shines, and de-frizzes my hair. I can use it to make sleeker, longer curls throughout my natural curls or I can use it to make beachy waves. If you do not follow the directions, it is very easy to tangle your hair-- which is scary. If I stop paying attention, then my long hair will definitely get wrapped up in this thing. Eeeek. However, this has not happened once when I am actually following the directions. Basically only when I zone out. It's also a pain in the butt to keep clean, and I do worry that the bristles could be breakable if I accidentally drop it. I have also actually caused more frizz at times with this tool, but that seems like a technique issue more than anything. I have also noticed that I have difficulty creating volume at the roots with this tool-- not sure if that's a technique thing too or if my very long hair is just too heavy. I also have to detangle realllllllly thoroughly to use the tool without snagging and ripping my way through my hair. Ouuuuch. But the instructions do say to detangle, so that isn't really a shocker. Just more of an irritating extra step that comes along with having piles of hair. Overall, I love it and am glad I found it.

Edit to include: this is a review of the FREESTYLE InStyler tool. I noticed that the reviews here are for multiple models of the InStyler. I LOVE the InStyler tool. The first photo shows my InStyler (white) and my very old InStyler (purple). I bought my original InStyler many years ago, maybe 8-10 years? I can’t really remember. But the hard plastic teeth are now breaking off. The tool still works. I searched for months locally for a replacement of anything close to my purple tool. No luck. One key feature is the on/off button does not toggle when using the tool. Not the case with every other brand out there. Also, other brands have bristles which cause static and pull the curl out of my hair. I finally went on line and found out the InStyler that I love is not made any more. But the new model (white) is available. So I gave it a shot. I love it. The on/off button is not an issue. It seems to get hotter than my old tool so I use a lower setting. The 2nd pic attached is my hair air dried and frizzy. The 3rd pic is my hair smooth and curled with the InStyler. Both the new & old tool yield these results. I like the fact that I am able to let my hair air dry and allow my natural curl and wave (and let’s face it, friz) be the base that will create the body behind the soft curls that the InStyler yields. Plus not blow drying means less damage to my hair.

Agree with all the other reviews. The Instyler is the best curling tool, especially for straight, fine and thin hair. And, yes, it is fragile. An additional plus, I have used this device all over the world, there has never been a problem with voltage. I have bought at least 3 of these and will continue to buy the Instyler, even with the fragility issue. When something works, I'm sticking with it. This is a great tool! I highly recommend it!
