## Description

Buy

Review: Excellent, robust, with quite a quiet fan - It’s a solid product, very easy to install and remove drives, and it runs pretty quietly. You do need a small Philips screwdriver for the drive installation (btw, drives are NOT included on this setup) and then the front locks with a small key. The key thing is the only thing that irritates me about these kind of ex closures, because there’s always the chance you might lose them. That last point aside, it’s a very good product.
Review: Sehr zuverlässig - Tolles Festplattensystem

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Owc 40tb thunderbay raid 5 4-drive hdd external storage solution with dual thunderbolt 3 ports: is this the enclosure only or are the drives included?**
A: Hello! This product does include the drives. It would be 4x 10TB drives.

**Q: what is the usuable capacity of the 16tb system in a raid 5 configuration?**
A: RAID 5 takes one drive for redundancy. Since you're asking about the 16TB (4 x 4TB) system, you will lose 4TB (one drive) of storage to redundancy, leaving you with 12TB of useable storage.

**Q: Will this work with m1 mac?**
A: Hello. Yes the ThunderBay will work on a M1 Mac. The version of SoftRAID that this comes with does not work, so you will need to install the beta version of SoftRAID.

**Q: Assume no raid. if i install an independent drive from another drive enclosure, does it need to be reformatted to be used in the thunderbay 4?**
A: Hello. The OWC ThunderBay does not have a RAID controller and uses Software to create raids. That being said you would be able to take an independent drive and installing into the ThunderBay 4 without needing to reformat the drive.
