Separating the keywells positions the arms at shoulder-width to keep wrists straight and perpendicular to the home row to reduce abduction and ulnar deviation. The two keywells are “tented” at an optimal 20 degree angle moderately raising the thumb side of the hand. Review: it is expensive but you get what you pay for - This is the only keyboard that has kept RSI away. I am a software developer and I had instant improvement within a single day. Productivity will take a hit until muscle memory catches up.
Review: Broke after six months of use - I bought this keyboard six months ago and it no longer works. The USB cable has broken, in the area where the cable meets the keyboard. There seems to be no easy way to fix it. It's a shame as this was a nice keyboard. There is no warranty so it seems there's nothing I can do. £322 down the drain. Edit: I was able to buy a replacement cable from Kinesis for $20, plus shipping. The keyboard is working fine again.

**Q: Can you get this keyboard with cherry mx blue switches?**
A: No, this only comes with Cherry Browns or Cherry Reds.

**Q: Does it come with a number pad? What is the best mouse to use with this keyboard?**
A: It comes with a "keypad mode" which you toggle on/off to convert some of the right cluster keys into a numeric keypad. There are two complaints about it i have though (one was reason enough to return it- however I've updated my review to say i might re-buy it again!):
1. the keys are so shallow that the alternative mode designations are very hard to read and see to know where the keypad keys sit or what they are. Not a problem for the number keys as 456 are your middle home keys. But +, -, *, etc.? good luck

2. in KEYPAD mode there is no way to type a zero. How does it happen to have a numeric keypad mode that has no ability to type a zero? (Oh yeah, using the number row key '0' doesn't do it either as KEYPAD mode changes that into a * 

It is #2 that I decided to return the kinesis keyboard. But now, after getting a more standard ergonomic keyboard- it is SO CLEAR just how un-ergonomic everything is compared to a Kinesis- so I almost immediately want to get it back and just use the number row keys and give up the numeric keypad function. So yea.. i'm pretty sure i'm now going to return this ergonomic keyboard and re-order the Kinesis... I'll give it 2 more days to see how this one works.

Edit: I was able to buy a replacement cable from Kinesis for $20, plus shipping. The keyboard is working fine again.
