You lose yourself so completely that admiration for what he has created is the only thing that pulls you back into the moment, making you step back and admire the perfection of the plot progression, the dialogue, the characters, and the myriad of things he just gets right so perfectly. This Omnibus and Reynold’s Fabius Bile Omnibus do something beyond any of the other 30k and 40k books (I have read all (100s) except the newer books from the authors I don’t know) it provides closure along every facet it creates, this is genius tiered attention to detail that satisfies the intellect and the soul. Both use humor; black, vast, and as cold as the void, as an integral part of their composition and it marks their “villains” as the wiser, infinitely more comprehending of their universe, and frankly the more heroic of any of the Astartes on either side or from any period of the long war. This Omnibus is something to be purchased on Kindle making it accessible always but should also be bought in paperback or hardcover and cherished as lovingly as any Bible. Last note, if you are or have served in the military, in small team combat focused elements particularly, and have been in combat, reading these books will bring you a sense of being seen and understood, and provide a form of comfort few things and fewer people can. I have read the books in this Omnibus 3 or 4 times and would also like to say “thank you” to Mr Dembski-Bowden for the gift of his stories. When inevitably asked by someone which Legion is my favorite and seeing shock and wariness on the face of strangers when I say the “VIII” or “The Nightlords” tells me a lot about the person I’m speaking to, I know from their reaction that they either haven’t read the books and or they have never been to combat. Final note BUY the Konrad Curze hardcover while you still can. Guy Haley wrote as if possessed by Aaron DB the writing is so perfectly synched.
