Review: BZ20 by Boyzone - My rating: ***** Track listing: 1. Love Will Save The Day 2. Who We Are 3. Everything I Own 4. Centre of Gravity 5. Heaven Is 6. If We Try 7. Nobody Knows 8. Best Night of Our Lives 9. Light Up the Night 10. You Will Be Mine 11. Rise 12. Rust 13. The Hour Before Christmas 14. Love Will Save the Day (official video) 1. Love Will Save The Day (Jez Ashurst/Viktoria Hansen) The first track on BZ20 is the single 'Love Will Save The Day', as soon as I heard it, I loved it. It's got such a great melody and chorus, what's not to love? 2. Who We Are (Andreas Moe/Andy Brown) I love the anthemic feel of the song. It's a real belter, and I think it will be stunning live. The lyrics are important and I think it sets the tone for who the Boyz actually are now. 3. Everything I Own (David Ashworth Gates) This is the first cover on the album. The original is by 70s (Soft) Rock band 'Bread'. When I saw the title on the album track listing, I had a feeling it was the same song, and I have to say I wasn't keen... Until I heard it. I have to say, it's one of the best covers that the lads have ever done. Michael (Graham)'s vocals are exquisite and I really feel like the lads have made it their own song. 4. Centre of Gravity (Daniel Neil McDougall/Ben Earle) For me, this is one of the weaker tracks on the album. Maybe its just a little too 'boyband' for me. Haha. I do like the sentiment, I just feel its lacking something. 5. Heaven Is (Don Mescall/Andy Hill) I think this song is a grower for me. Initially I had it pegged as a bit of a soppy love song, but after a few listens I do think it has a little more depth than that. It might just take me a few more listens to get used to the idea! 6. If We Try (Michael Graham/Lee McCutcheon/Mark Read) This track for me proves that boybands don't always have to be about the ballads. Of course, its always nice to hear a love song (especially if its your favourite member signing) but its positively brilliant to have a slightly rockier, definitely more upbeat number on the album. Michael again takes lead vocals on this track, and that is another of the reasons that I love it so. 7. Nobody Knows (Joe Rich/Don DuBose) I'm not sure about this song, it's another cover, but I think the song is lesser known. The original is by The Tony Rich project. I have to confess I'm not keen on the original. Don't get me wrong, the vocals are great, but for me, it's maybe just a little too "boyband". Before anyone jumps down my throat for saying so, yes, I am aware that they are a boyband, but they do usually steer away from the stereotypical sound. 8. Best Night of Our Lives (Ronan Keating/Anthony Egizii/David Musumeci) I really like the lyric and sentiment of this track, but musically I do think it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. 9. Light Up the Night (Josh Kear/Ed Hill) This is a brilliant track and I can really imagine it being performed live. From the opening piano bars it has you hooked and really lifts you. 10. You Will Be Mine (Ben Adams/Michael Graham/Shelley McErlaine) This has to be one of my favourite songs on the album so far. It is so uplifting! It features Michael again on lead vocals and is nothing short of amazing. 11. Rise (Don Mescall/Danny Orton) This is another solid track. I'm not sure I could see it being released a single, I think it's maybe because I see it as a 'Ronan' album track rather than a Boyzone song. That's not a criticism, I just think it suits his style a little better. 12. Rust (Patrick Mascall/Paul Barry/Ronan Keating) This is another of the more upbeat tracks on the album, and is a real grower. I can imagine this one being done live to great critique. It also reminds me a little bit of the Boyz earlier days.. might be something to do with the rap at the end! 13. The Hour Before Christmas (Don Mescall/Rob Wells) I've got to be honest, I really wasn't sure about this when I first played it. But I think it's a grower. I like all the ''Christmas'' sounds in the background. It's quite an atmospheric song without being cheesy, and I think that by Christmas I might just love it. 14. Love Will Save the Day (official video) A bonus of buying the deluxe edition of the album, is that you get the official video to Love Will Save The Day. Overall it's a fantastic album and despite my critique I've given it 5 stars overall, as the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.

Outstanding album. They did Stephen proud with this release. Additional Xmas song a nice little bonus to finish the album. Great to hear Mikey's vocals shine through.
