## Questions & Answers

**Q: For those of you that moved to the D610 from a flawed D600, what did you do with your D600?**
A: Bought my D600 in Dec. 2012. Sent it in every 2 months for sensor dust spots until a week ago, when Nikon finally agreed to replace it with the D610. Now, however, they will not give me a firm date for when I can expect my replacement camera. This is beyond inconvenient, as I use my camera daily for business and business is booming right now. Never once did they offer to refund me, and now my business is suffering. It's enough to make me want to convert to Canon and, if I didn't have a million dollars in lenses, I might have done just that.

**Q: Just got this camera for Christmas. Just one question I have many DX lens from my old camera. Do I need or should I look to replace all the lens?**
A: The default setting on the D610 is to automatically adjust to the sensed attached lens crop factor mode (i.e. FX and DX). You can change this behavior by manually selecting the FX or DX mode based on the lens mounted. This can be a good idea, because the camera may not recognize correctly the lens that is attached to it. This is especially true for non-Nikon lenses. If the crop factor is set to DX, the image will have a 16MP resolution instead of the FX mode 24MP. You will see a rectangle in the view finder that outlines the image area when the camera is either set or recognizes automatically the DX lens crop mode. This yeilds several changes to the resultant image. One, the angle of view will be the same as if the body was DX - meaning that you should apply the 1.5 factor to the distance (i.e. mm) setting of the lens. So, a 50MM lens becomes effectively a 75MM lens. Due to the reduced image area, there would be less information captured, and the resultant file size will be smaller. This could reduce the lens vignetting that typically occurs on FX cameras. From my experience, not sure if it is a fact or my bias, this also reduces the image IQ in low-light situations. I have used the DX lenses on this camera and have gotten good results. I do prefer to use FX lenses on this camera for two reasons - 1. I do not need to worry about leaving out parts of a scene while composing a shot (due to a smaller image area), 2. I seem to get better image quality in low light situations (sports, night scenes, etc.). I would recommend to invest into FX lenses as your budget permits and according to what type of photography you do most frequently. FX lenses tend to be more expensive. I hope this helps you to make your decisions.

**Q: It appears that most of the 1-star ratings are directed at the D600. The rating therefore seems skewed for D610. Am I wrong?**
A: It is somewhat unfair to the D610. These reviews unfairly skewed the rating of the D610. I would like to see the D610 rating to stand on its own and not from the vengeance of a number of D600 owners. One of the posters is really rude, accusing any D610 reviewer as Nikon employee. These reviewers do not even own the D610. There have been 2-3 reviews claiming dust/oil spots on the D610. I have taken close to 1400 shots and I have not seen it. Of course, I don't look for deep blue skies to verify the oil spots on my shots. I am very satisfied with the D610. Amazon is not doing anything with these skewed reviews. They do remove the rude comments from these posters. If Nikon is the problem, the complaint should be directed to Nikon and not to a product. To date, I am happy that I moved from D7000 to D610. I do feel badly for the D600 owners though.

**Q: How does this camera compare to the nikon d7100?**
A: The D610 is a full frame camera. The d7100 is a DX sensor. They are both excellent machines with all the bells and whistles that most photographers will ever need, but a full frame camera gives your images more room to crop. The FX lenses that you own will perform with more detail and sharpness then you will see on a DX camera. You will want to upgrade to a full frame camera eventually. What you get for your money with the 610 will make you shake your head and wonder how Nikon does it. If you can swing it, get the 610.
