If I used the switch at the top to turn the Christmas tree on at 9am for Christmas Day (or any day), it would automatically turn off at 10pm as scheduled. All of the rest of the timers that I had seen only had TIMER or ON. It was incredibly easy to set up, size was perfect as it didn't take up 2 plugs in the outlet. Not sure about the durability yet, but I have an Intermatic sprinker timer which has been in use for over 25 years and only had to replace one inexpensive part 2 years ago.
