If you have an available dovetail, great; if you don't want to drill holes just stick it on with some double sided tape - it's very light. Keep in mind though that I hardly use it anymore, because I got a Telrad finder, which makes finding and centering objects way, but way easier. **Q: Is this mounted by dovetail or otherwise?** A: It has a base that attaches to the scope. The second one works perfectly. Tip: The battery compartment on the top has a little plastic tab that sticks out to protect the battery from discharge before initial use. Just pull the tab outward and the unit should work. No need to open the battery compartment to get the tab out. Yes the finder is made out of plastic, but all of them at this price point are. The plus is that it keeps it lightweight.
