Both corn and peanuts can harbor a toxic mold, so you need to look for that. A better diet should have fruits and vegetables, and nuts in the shell. Variety is best as some foods can inhibit the absorption of minerals from other foods.For my squirrels, I spend a fortune on raw unsalted walnuts, pecans, and occasionally other nuts if on sale (usually without the shell). I try to avoid almonds, pine nuts sourced from China, and cashews based on my online research. I also include some fresh chopped apple, pear, or peach a few times a week, and sometimes lettuce, broccoli, or carrot, along with some dried sulfite-free fruit bits (there is an add-on offer on Amazon for the dried papaya bits, sold for pet birds, and other fruit/nut mixes; I add it to my cart when the price is low). My squirrels also eat food for the birds, such as raw shell-free sunflower seed and yes, peanuts... I just try to offer variety as much as I can. Like humans, they usually go for the less-healthy options first.My suggestions are a little extreme.
