It is best to open the case as if you are going to use it, then remove the two #1 Phillips screws. Remove the plastic tab and put the back back on. The meter itself is stable (I've seen some reviews that say otherwise), it matches readings from one of my Flukes, and it seems to work great. I haven't tried every setting, but it worked well for everything I need it to do. I didn't buy it for any serious work, but rather a meter that is easy to keep in a travel bag or glove box. In terms of ease of use, if you know how to use a multimeter, there is no reason to look at the instructions that came with it. There are three things that I think could be better: first, I added a little silver Sharpie to the little arrow on the mode selector to make it easier to read. Second, I am a little concerned about how the hinges for the top cover work. I feel like they may be the weak link in the system and may break. Time will tell. After 14 minutes of inactively it gives out several short beeps. After 15 minutes it gives out a long beep before shutting down.
