The material is sturdy and I’m not worried with brakeage. The metal bracket that came with these wouldn’t fit my bike so I had to leave it off. The only downside was that they immediately started loosen up and I ended up losing a screw on my 2nd ride with these. I had expected they would loosen overtime and planned to reinforce them with locktite, but I wanted to give them a test run first. I bought new hardware and have reattached them both now with Locktite. Although these won’t give you any significant pull up power, they do give you a slight edge that I really like. They also prevent your feet from slipping if you are climbing a hill and drop your gears too fast, causing your bike to jerk. I ride my bike to commute and recreationally and I like that this will give me more footwear options when commuting because there’s less concern about the bottoms being slick. It does take a minute to get the hang of it. The weight causes the pedal to flip toward so I’ve found it’s best to slip one toe in, and then the other once you’ve got some forward momentum and can pause from pedaling for a moment. Sometimes I just start with the flat pedal on both feet and then slip in. I think I’ll get better at it as I use them more. They’re small enough that you can still flat pedal and clear the ground on my bike, but they might hit if taking a turn. Sizing info: I wear a women’s 11, which is generally equivalent to a men’s 9. Based on the other reviewer pictures less than a 9 is a smaller and greater than a 9 is a large. I wasn’t sure which to chose so I went with the small and I was the right choice, my toe fits snuggly in it with athletic shoes on, and I even did a quick ride in my chacos with no issue.
