This book is a worthy companion to that book. This book is also beautifully illustrated so the modeler has a good idea about what is under the covers of locos, command stations, boosters, decoders and the like. If a modeler does anything at all with a new DCC layout this book will be an invaluable guide. Buying a loco without lights and sound will inevitably lead to a decision to add them if it is possible. This book will show how. At this point, I must warn that not every book will contain everything a modeler needs. Success will depend on common sense, inventiveness, using the resources of a local train club, a couple of good sites on the internet, a local dealer, patience and care. But, the results are utterly worth it. Aside from these two books if you are going to use any Loconet cabling at all, do it right, spend the bucks and get a good crimper. Home depot sells Klein Tools Ratcheting Modular Crimper/Stripper at about $30. The instructions are dense -- it took me ten practice tries and about 10" of 1" cable strips but the cable (and I'm sure successive ones) will work the first time and it shouldn't take longer than a minute or two to make. ### ⭐⭐ Definitely NOT worth the money *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2010* This book has a sticker price of $19.95 but it's definitely not worth the money. Almost everything in it has been published in magazines such as "Model Railroader" recently. The rest is easily found on DCC manufacturers web sites. In short, there's absolutely nothing new in here. Many of the illustrations seem to be added just to pad the book at take up space. They don't contribute to understanding the subject. (Even the "receiver locations" illustration on the cover is wrong, there's absolutely no need for the 'optional repeater locations'. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very valuable reference manual. *by G***E on Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2020* I am in the starting stage of building a ho layout and want to use DCC decoders to help run the train.
