**Q: How can this item be "easily trimmed to size"?**
A: Yes, it probably could but would need to be repainted.

**Q: Is this item installed at the top of the fireplace opening? Or is it attached to the bottom of the mantel? Thanks**
A: Hi, Christie, we attached it to the mantel, the top of the mantel to be exact. The mantel is narrow, nothing can sit on it. Just wanted to block the heat off the TV. Hope this answers your question.

**Q: What is the best way to shorten the length of the hood?   "easily trimmed". How?   Metal sheers? Metal cutting blade in saw?**
A: I did not have to cut mine but I would think either way  would work just fine  I personally would use the metal cutting blade

**Q: Does this come with spacers to provide an air gap when attaching it?**
A: Yes, mine came with 4 ceramic spacers (with screws) that leave an adequate air gap between the protector and the bottom of the mantel. This is a simple solution to a potentially critical problem that works great. It blends in with the fireplace insert so most people do not even notice it.

Just what I needed and easy enough to install. Now, I don't have worry about excess heat and the risk of fire on the bottom side of my wooden mantel. Yes, the metal will get hot but the airspace created with the spacers between the metal and the wood allows your mantel to stay cool. Works really well. A little pricey for what it is but ask yourself what your peace of mind is worth or possibly the cost of replacing your home due to a preventable fire. Very happy with this purchase!

First one was delivered. Bent. Box and product were bent. Returned. Second one arrived just fine and it really really works. We placed it flat against the top of the mantle and everything above it, including items sitting directly on it are totally cool to the touch. I am impressed it works this well.
