(If it’s a cordless mower, remove the battery Pack. ) 2 tip the mower onto its side to expose the retaining nut or bolt that secures the blade to the underside of the mower. 3 after removing the retaining nut or bolt pull off the mower blade, making note of which side of the blade faces downward. It’s important that the blade gets bolted back on in the same orientation. 4 with the blade removed, take a Min & scrape clean the underside of the mowing deck with a narrow-blade putty knife. Remove all caked-on grass, mud, leaves & other debris. Also, clean both sides of the lawnmower blade by first spraying with penetrating oil, & then scrubbing with a stiff-bristled brush. 5 lawnmower blades typically have a cutting edge on each end, which are positioned on opposite sides of the blade. Each cutting edge is only about 3 or 4" Long; It doesn’t extend the length of the blade. Clamp the blade in a vice at an angle with One of its cutting edges facing up. 6 use the drill-powered blade sharpener. It consists of a round abrasive stone, flat sharpening guide, & ¼"-diameter steel shank. The stone has a beveled surface that grinds the ideal cutting angle onto the blade. Chuck The sharpening stone into a drill. Put on some safety glasses. Squeeze the trigger to run the drill at full speed. Slip the spinning Sharpener over the edge of the blade. Be sure the dull cutting edge faces the beveled side of the stone, & the flat surface of the guide is against the rear of the blade. Slowly move the stone back & forth along the cutting edge Using moderate pressure. And of course, it does not "follow" the curve on a mulching blade as it only works on the straight section of the blade toward the tip. And when you try to run for an extended period of time such as over a minute, the backing plastic ring starts to melt because of the heat. Novel ideal but a product that fails at industrialization. Not recommended. ### ⭐⭐⭐ It grinds but it's tough to keep it straight and in control *by R***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2019* I clamped the dull mower blade in my bench vice (this would be impossible with a bench vice or clamp of some sort). Then I installed this grinder wheel in my 20v cordless drill (set to high speed). I then proceeded to struggle holding the drill at good angle while grinding the blades. Every nick in the blade would cause the drill to jump in my hands making it difficult to keep at a good angle and grind the blade properly. I eventually got the blade's edge "clean" looking after a lot of time and effort.I think a good flat metal file would have worked better.Ultimately, I should have just bought new blades for my mower which are around $20. There's no fault to this product besides the idea of using it seems easy until you actually try it. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Does require you to do a little work. *by R***L on Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2019* There is a little bit more vibration then I expected. I used a ryobi cordless drill with it. I sharpened my lawnmower blade, but in tilting it, I made it smoke for the first time. (I tilted the wrong way, so basically my fault. ) It doesn't sharpen quickly if that's what your expecting. You actually have to wedge it up in there.
