The scent is not subtle when you open the box, but don't worry it's very mild on laundered clothing. Each sheet is perforated so you can tear them in half before being placed in the dryer. This is to prevent them from clogging your dryer vent. It's a safety issue, just tear them in half and chuck it into the dryer. Or use half of the Basil scented sheet and half of another Mrs. Meyer's dryer sheet to create your own scent. These sheets are compostable so rather than throwing them away just chuck them into your compost pile or save them for a friend that composts. Basil might sound like an odd scent for dryer sheets but it's a very pleasant, clean scent. Thankfully I wasn't met with the cloud of Great Aunt Mildred perfume when I took my clothes out of the dryer. I'm thrilled that these dryer sheets smell clean, soften clothes really well, eliminate static and they don't leave a white residue inside my dryer.
