**Q: Are these weather resistant/water resistant to be used in the rain?**
A: We have used them on outside entrances.

**Q: Will this work on an exterior outlet box, and can I put a weatherproof cover over it?**
A: If you have a waterproof case, then it works. But so sorry that we don't sell a waterproof case for this switch.

**Q: what is the current rating at 12v DC?**
A: I would say fairly high since it's transferring power through steel "tumblers"/pins. I've got .75 amps, (750mA) running through it with no problem..

**Q: can I use this to turn my house lights on and off? Or will the amperage brake it?**
A: This key switch is an emergency switch button, used in emergency situations, not suitable for controlling the switch of daily lights. Thanks.

I purchased this to replace an exterior access switch for my garage door opener. The opener is very old and not compatible with any of the "Keypad" type access controls available. Using a key switch makes exterior access to the garage very easy. Since the signal is low voltage, I expect the switch to last a long time, and the supplied mounting plate was a perfect replacement for the previous switch, which finally gave up after 40 years. Very good value and is well built. Be advised the switch is essentially a single-pole, double-throw type switch, so use a DVM to determine which set of contacts you will need. Easily installed and well worth the money.
