It is similar to filling a tire, you typically want it about as firm as you can get it without feeling like you are going too far. Probably impossible to burst with hand pump, automatic pump is what I use to fill to desired firmness. For exercising, sitting on, etc. the firmer it is, the less stable so you may start with it softer and work up to doing your exercises with a firmer ball. **Q: I have a 331/2 inch inseam which size should i buy?** A: For 5'8 - 6'2", they recommend 65 cm. size.
