Review: Great choice for beginner oboist - As a brand-new beginner on the oboe, I searched around for a good reed to start on. I chose to go with plastic since plastic reeds are less finicky than cane reeds (don't need to be soaked, less susceptible to ambient conditions). Having no ability to try anything before buying, I took a gamble on the Medium-Soft plastic reed by Chartier. It is an excellent choice, very comfortable and produces a decent sound. From visual inspection, I can see that it is still intact after having played on it for 7 weeks.

As a brand-new beginner on the oboe, I searched around for a good reed to start on. I chose to go with plastic since plastic reeds are less finicky than cane reeds (don't need to be soaked, less susceptible to ambient conditions). Having no ability to try anything before buying, I took a gamble on the Medium-Soft plastic reed by Chartier. It is an excellent choice, very comfortable and produces a decent sound.
