I have used them for years as I am a sr citizen and live alone. I have mentioned the use of these to several people throughout my life especially when they can't find their keys and are upset. Most look at me like I am a lunatic but ask yourself what will happen if you are alone and away from your comfort zone and loose or misplace your keys? In a cold winter or a dangerous part of town not having used this item could be very costly or fatal. I get one on the first day when I change cars. Yes, a car theif could find this and steal your car..... but what are the odds? I have never heard of a person taking the time to feel around under a car to steal it.
