I have used it with wheat, spelt berries and alfalfa sprouts since I received it a couple of weeks ago. After two days the alfalfa sprouts start turning green and could be eaten but I prefer to wait another day. As soon as the leaves start to turn slightly green I dissemble the container and place them outdoors for fresh air and a little bit of sunshine for an hour or so (even though less time is required). After that the leaves start turning dark green. I reassemble the container and leave them one more day so that they can continue to grow a little bit more. On the third day I have the best alfalfa sprouts ever (don't look like that in the stores). Another thing I love about this spouter is that most of the husk stays at the bottom when you remove the alfalfa. I give them a final rinse after putting them in my salad spinner. Almost all of the remaining husk gets eliminated this way and the sprouts are big enough not to go through the wholes in the spinner. I am ordering two more of these. These drain perfectly and I have never had any mold grow on my sprouts, but make sure to rinse them twice a day at least. The plastic is a nice quality, and the top closes air-tightly. The clips on the sides are just a bit though to unclamp.
