Of course in Alaska we don't have dirt, we have big rocks and little rocks, grin. The largest rock I encountered was about 3 pounds and 3" in diameter. After about 10 minutes of using my Milwaukee Hole Hog on the low-speed setting I was able to remove the rock from the bottom of the hole.After clearing the rock when I reinserted the auger I noticed that the 12" extension had bent, not broken and the weld held but it was bent at the joint. I will have a buddy weld it back but it's out of commission until then. The other two, the 20" and the 8" are holding up ok.Tomorrow is a mailbox post hole with the same dimensions... finger's crossed.I drilled the second hole and the two remaining extensions held up against a 25-pound rock that I had to use an ice bar to break free.Upon closer inspection, the weld on the 12" extension did not encircle the connection, it was only tacked on.
