I used the optical cable and while the sound was definitely better than the sound from my Samsung 46" TV, it was not impressively better. However, when we watched Game of Thrones the sound was amazing. The clarity and bass response was phenomonally better, so apparently, my initial impression was due to the sound quality of the regular cable TV shows. Of course, with the two 4" x 6" "wooofers," the sound bar is not going to produce the kind of bass that punches you in the chest. However, it does OK. I would say it probably gets down to about 50HZ before it rolls off serverely. I have a Klipsch powered subwoofer sitting around that I'm going to try to hook up to the TV with the mini-plug output and see if that shakes the house. That being said, the remote sucks. I tried to use the learn function on the sound box to set up the TV remote to work with it instead of the dedicated remote, but so far unsuccessfully. However, I only gave it one try to far. Have to check the Cambridge website to see if there are detailed instructions on how to do it since the tow lines of "instructions" on the box are not to clear. I would buy it again. I'll give you the story and you decide. Bought it, hooked it up and it worked great, sounded good, was easy to use. Worked for six weeks then it just died. No power. Tried different TV's, different hookups...nothing. So started the customer service odyssey. I explained the problem and they said... go to your retailer. I said I bought it from Amazon, they said contact your retailer. I said, "you are the retailer" they said fill out this form ... I said "the form doesn't have this product sold in the US"...they said "we fixed the form fill it out" ... I filled out a new form .. They said we already have a form for this problem. I told the that .. they said "give us the information and we'll fill out a form for you." They said OK the form is filled out and the return is accepted. I said "what do I do now there is no confirmation no return instructions etc. Have yet to hear back.. Quite possibly the worst customer service in history.
