Thick metal, robust threads and an O-ring, they should last forever. And these are just the right size to carry in your pocket. They don't hold a lot, but it's enough for two people to make it through a Jimmy Buffet concert or a Seahawks football game. But if you plan on passing your pipe around much you will need one of the bigger size Supercans. I got four of the aluminum 2"x1" cans and they also come in a 2.5"x2" size. I thought this would be perfect to keep a small amount of oil in for gun/knife/axe maintenance in the woods; so I put a small amount of mineral oil in when I got it. Almost immediately it started to leak out. I don't think the seams are meant for any kind of liquid.
