Review: Straightforward to find ceiling joists - Works perfectly. I used it to locate joists through a ceiling. In my case, the ‘pull’ feel was strong and definitive- it supports its own weight when you find a nail, so you can leave it up to mark around it, my only thought is you have to mark a few times around it to derive the centre location of the nail, whereas with round magnets with holes you can just mark the centre directly.

**Q: Is this attracted to the stud itself, or a nail in the stud?  How is this different from using a small magnet to find the nails (my current method)?**
A: The Studbuddy attaches to the fasteners in the wall. The differences I can see is that since this stud finder's base is plastic you run no risk of scratching the paint, also, the Studbuddy is about 6 inches long and you may find a screw or nail more easily than with a smaller magnet.

I mean it does the job, but the instructions weren’t very accurate , for my walls anyway, it’s nice and compact though , won’t take up your whole tool box which is a bonus! Very strong magnet too. Just maybe not strong enough for my walls, or I’ve just got crap walls haha!
