Buy extra CR-2032 batteries if you are doing things like collecting temperature once per minute for a week or two (that's 1440 data points per day, so no reason to complain). ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's a little clunky... but appears to be working. *by M***G on August 15, 2023* I notice several reviews that claim the software doesn't work on windows. I have Windows 11, and downloaded their software from eltechus com pages download. You'll have to add the slashes in there because Amazon won't let me provide a "real" link. The software is slow and clunky, but it does work. You'll need a combination of the help PDF (in the software), the little user manual that comes in the box as well as the unit itself to get it sorted out. I bought 3 units, one has a persistent "nC" problem (photo 1 & 3) which is not documented anywhere, but which I believe means "no connection" between the unit and the probe. The probe attaches to the USB port and also serves as a "dust cover" of sorts. Several behaviors are also undocumented, and the symbols on the unit are rather tiny and a little anti-thetical to operation. For example there are what appear to be a block and right arrow (triangle) that flash. I interpreted that to mean that it is recording since the triangle is listed as the "record" status on the little User's Manual. The triangle is tiny, and the display isn't backlit.. so it's easy to miss. What DOES help is when you start the recording (5 second press on the play button) it shows rEC which I believe others have confused as an error code. I think whenever you click the "play" button it should say or flash rEC and that would be easier to read than the tiny triangle. Suffice it to say that my first three attempts to get a recording were thwarted by the unobvious behavior. In its favor, the device does have quite a few features that can be "gotten at" through the two keys, and the software. For example two quick presses on the "pause" button (which they call the right button) will "log" an event. This can be very useful if you start or end a series of measurements and want to note exactly when the start and end were. It's also a bit odd to me that the unit is "upside down" from what I would expect. If you use the built-in hole to hang it and press the play button to cycle through the displays, you'll have an upside down display. To me the more natural way to hold it is opposite the way it's laid out and labeled, but that's just a nit pick. One thing that is not listed and doesn't appear in the images or product descriptions is that each unit came with a holder (see photo 1 where the unit is seen in it's holder with the retaining clip). The holder has two strong magnets (photo 3) that allow the unit to be attached to ferrous metal without using tape or screws - though the bracket also has screw holes for permanent attachment. This came in handy because I wanted to check the accuracy of our AC thermostat and hanging near it is a wrought iron sconce - it "sticks" to that sconce without any extra hassle. Indeed, many corners in my house have a metallic drywall bead and those magnets stick to it readily (photo 4). More about the "NC" problem. Notice in photo 1 and 3 it shows that status. I've marked it on photo 3 with a red arrow. I tried various ways to get this to NOT say "nc" as clearly it's a connection problem and came up with a solution that you see in photo 2 (blue arrow)... which is NOT to try to completely seat the probe cap. Without a complete seating, you can't put on the retaining clip as shown in photo 4. I'm going to come back and update this review after I've verified accuracy and temperature collection for a day or two, and had a chance to see what, if anything the seller will do about the "NC" problem. The software has a LOT of features and is a bit "techy" to operate, and slow to load, but could be my laptop that is balking. **In Summary** Overall my biggest misgivings are the odd choice of buttons and layout, and that one of my three units needs fiddling to work around a "NC" (no connection) problem. Of those, the NC is the biggest issue.
