Yes, you will have to learn how to use Sheepshaver and find a bootleg Mac ROM image and locate an antique generic OS 7, 8 or 9 CD, but it this interactive artwork is worth it. I had long been a Laurie Anderson fan. Puppet Motel has the same sensibility as her concerts. It's an interactive performance exploiting sound, sense, music and light. The "game" is split into rooms, rooms linked by light and story. One travels under water, back in time and through space. It's not a game in the sense of killing zombies or racking up points, but in terms of exploration and discovery. I wish there were a more modern version that could run under a recent OS without using a bizarrely named OS, but I suppose the requisite scavenger hunt is now part of the art. Sheepshaver itself seems to have been written by Martians and booting from a real or virtual OS installation CD takes one back into the past.
