A picture is worth a thousand words but ill try to do it with less words than that. mount the device at the top of the tank, if the tank is full the float is up and the circuit is open...(In my case the alert light is off) . If the water level drops, the float drops and the circuit is closed and my alert light is on **Q: What is the length of the leads on this switch?** A: I didnt measure the leads, but Id say 8" **Q: what is the "closed" position (aka circuit continuity)?** A: When the tank is full continuity is open or broken, when the tank is low continuity is closed or made. I bullt a replacement sump pump switch with it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Working float switch *by T***. on April 17, 2021* I've been using this float switch to determine if my rain water collector has reached a decent size of liquid. It's nice to be able to use this to detect water level rising as it gives me a chance to immediately use it. I plan on setting up a system where it waters my garden in the future automatically but haven't built out that. For now it's just hooked up so I can be notified of it. I like how it doesn't use mercury. Didn't even know they had ones with mercury but it definitely makes me cautious for others if I end up needing more of these. I'll be using this for the long haul so if my items rust or otherwise fail I'll update the review so far it has been great though with no issues so I have nothing negative to say.
