The ladder has realistic controls as you would see for some hydraulic cranes. I think it was done pretty well. There are boots over the levers to protect from water entry to the switches. The squirter actually sprays water far. I would say about 15 to 20 feet. I found it will not spray sometimes if the water spray trigger is not FULLY pressed. That is the center lever pulled all the way to stop. Some reviews stated the squirt function failed quickly. It has to prime too. The resevoir is pretty big. I really wish this truck had steering and could be driven like a Power Wheels. Other than that... No complaints. Is he too big for it?** A: I believe he would be too tall!!! **Q: How to get the water to squirt?** A: Center stick pulled all the way down/back. It also triggers the siren but if not pulled hard enough the switch will not activate the water pump. Low/bad batteries may cause it to not work too. Not to state the obvious but make sure to add water where the black cap is on the cab. **Q: This is second one i have received. first didn’t do anything after putting batteries in. neither has the second. am i missing something?** A: Mine was doing the same. Try removing the seat and battery cover and holding your batteries down with your hand. Mine worked when I did that . Seems to be manufactured poorly.
