Review: A great sub for a great price. - When my 25 year old Eltax sub but the dust I needed a replacement but didn't want to spend a fortune. Based on reviews both here and on audio websites I realised that this fitted the bill perfectly. It's more powerful than I needed but seems very well constructed, sounds beautiful and matches our other furniture, what more could I want. I'm hoping this one will last as long as my little Eltax did.
Review: Gives a Good Solid Boom - Still bedding this speaker in. Had it a few weeks. The sound quality has improved markedly over these weeks. I have this sub matched with 2 Wharferdale Diamond 9.1 speakers. The amp is an AUNA AV-CD508, supposedly 600W output. Sound is fed from my desktop PC to the amp then through the sub to the regular speakers using banana plugs. I was unsure whether to award 4 stars or 5. I opted to give 5 because this sub does kick out a good booming bass, though fullness seems to depend on the music played. I listen to streamed music so suspect recording quality is more the issue than is speaker quality. Reggae, elektro, reggaeton and bass boosted music come through well. Bass in pop music comes through less well. Bass in movies can be room shaking at times yet other times lacking the vital thunderous experience. I feel that recording quality is more the issue than the sub's capability to produce crisp bass. This sub could do with a remote control. The 2 nobs to adjust the volume and the crossover frequency are on the back of the sub. Volume is no issue because my amp has a separate control for bass in an easy to reach location. But, the crossover on the sub needs to be adjusted when I switch from music to video or, less so, when I change music genre. The location of the crossover control nob is my only real annoyance with the sub. In all other respects I'm happy with it. Overall, this is a nice looking sub with good solid thunderous room shaking bass performance (don't worry, you can turn down the shakes with the volume nob at the back of the sub). I would buy this sub again. Edit 18th Jan 2025: I should have updated this review a couple of years ago. The sub looks really nice and it has a great bass output. Room shaking. When it works. I've not had a peep out of it for about 2 years. Problems developed within the first year of purchase. The sub would randomly cut out. I thought my amp might have been at fault but I recently bought a new amp and there is still no sound from this sub. Apparently the relays in this sub model are a known point of failure. It's very common. I sent a support request to Wharferdale today. Hopefully Wharferdale will offer help to fix the fault.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: do you have to have a sub out on youre amp to be able to use this?**
A: No you can piggy back the audio out for the speakers
From the amp straight into the left. And right audio in on the sub

**Q: Would i be able to use this subwoofer with my Yamaha rx v359 receiver. And how?**
A: Hello!

In theory, you should be able to take a phono / single RCA cable from the subwoofer output on the back of your receiver and into left or right of the RCA/line input on the back of the sub. Some people opt for a male RCA which splits into two male RCA so that both left and right receive an input but I believe there’s not much advantage.

**Q: Is it possible to connect my hi-fi via the 'speaker lvel inputs' and my tv sound bar using the 'line level inputs'. not to be played at the same time.**
A: If I understand you correctly, yes you can, but you just need care in terms of what you use & when. Yes, you can connect your hi-fi to the sub, via the speaker connections(take care & observe polarity), AND your soundbar via the line-level inputs.
So if you use your hi-fi(with the soundbar & TV off) then the sub'll work using the speaker level connections. Then, for your TV & soundbar(with your hi-fi off), the sub'll work using the line level(the RCA phono) connections.
You'll then just need to match up the cross-over frequency and output level of your sub for the different hi-fi & TV/soundbar needs, as I doubt that they'll be the same for both needs. However, you might be able to get a compromise to suit the two types of systems, that'll save fiddling around.
Happy listening!

**Q: Can i connect this to my denon dht-s216 soundbar? soundbar has a single " subwoofer out" connection**
A: Yes, connect a 'Y' phono connector(*) from the Denon soundbar to the stereo inputs of the subwoofer. I guess the soundbar will output a mono signal in the subwoofer output, so even a single phono connector would work, but to ensure a better amplification use both phono inputs on the subwoofer. If set up correctly, you should get a rich, deep sounding low end to your experience. Enjoy!
(* ie. a single phono plug to 2 phono plugs)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great value subwoofer.
*by P***E on 13 March 2026*

I cannot praise this sub enough! It hooked up easily, adjusted to phase, cutoff and volume precisely. And the result is way better than one should expect at this price point. I have had subs costing considerably more that aren't as musical - and it can cover movie effects for a small to medium room perfectly well. Okay - you can get more out of 250+Watts but to match it for an accurate sound blending well with speakers in an AV system its going to cost several times more. Even the Walnut finish and overall heft of the admittedly big box is pleasing. Again, if you want something in glossy piano black packed into a small form factor its not for you. But as a big punchy and suprisingly deft performer it really can't be beaten for under £200. Its close to persuading me to get some diamond speakers to match if the sound, looks and finish are on a par.
