    Traditional glue for restoration

I like this stuff -it's a fiddle compared to pva or similar, but works really well when mixed with water and heated up to the right temperature - I did it in a jar in a pan of water and kept the water no higher than 60C.So far used on antique furniture that already had animal glue, which it seems to bond well to without cleaning it all off. After setting it has been sturdy. In use it has good workability and applied with a small brush to both surfaces.Once mixed it can be kept in the jar, but needs heating to use again as it forms a stiff jelly at room temperature. The advantage - and disadvantage - is that application of heat and/or moisture can loosen it so it is not irreversible like synthetic glues, so it is not for external use.

Does a great job without having to buy a large quantity.

I suggest you do a bit of web research and some testing before trying this out on a real repair. The glue must not get too hot or it loses its adhesive properties so always use a thermometer. I re-glued a violin neck on with no problems but you should experiment to get the consistency just right and don't be afraid to brush on plenty of hot glue; it wipes off easily with a hot, damp rag. For a small repair job I use a small glass fish paste jar inside a slightly bigger jar filled with boiling water. Be careful not stir too vigorously; this creates lots of air tiny bubbles and it weakens the final bond. The hot glue should look like thick, clear honey, not sticky foam.

    Good product

I used it to repair a fallen off detail from an antique chair. It still holds, I'm happy :)I suggest starting with less liquid than you expect to use, and then slowly add water if you need more. Also, if you have modern ceramic oven surface, you can set it to minimum heat - it worked fine for me.Note that you cannot store the glue after it is used, since mold really likes it.
