They are simple foam without any plastic reinforcement inside the sword blades. They bend and all but are enough to give the feeling of sword fighting or battling to save some noble cause to the little ones. The red one is thicker and I’ve been hit a few times with the edge and it can hurt, so be aware of that. The handles are larger enough for adult hands. The shields have Velcro straps on the back to make adjustments to size so you have hold the straps with your hands or tighten down around your arm.
