This pad is best for subcuticular suturing and port closures as it is very thin (I think there are thicker options, but they were out of my price range).It mimics skin surprisingly well, much better than foam counterparts I have used in our sim center. Also the layers of the skin are fairly well represented and are visible after making an incision in the pad. Given the bottom of the pad sticks to whatever you put it on, I found that a slightly elliptical incision was most easily accomplished by making a single vertical incision and then picking up the pad and stretching it apart before resetting it on the surface. This worked better for me than cutting out an elliptical shape to begin with and was most effective for incisions in the center of the pad.I thought the price was reasonable considering how expensive some of the alternatives are. Still not cheap given the size of the pad, but as a medical student I like being able to keep this out on my desk and practice whenever I have some free time, which isn't a very reasonable option with pig's feet.
