Drop one end of the string with nut through a small opening at the top of the barrel. Roll or tilt barrelwhile fishing the nut through the opening where you want the fitting. Then secure the end of the string with your foot. Pull the other end of string and thread the fitting ocer the other end of the string. Pull string tight and let the fitting slid to the hole. Slip your finger on the hole and into center of fitting and pull it into the hole. Thread nut through outside piece of fitting. Put your finher through both pieces of fitting.pull inside piece snug against barrel while screwing outside piece snug. Make sure the rubber gasket is on the inside of the bsrrel. Its also a good idea to make sure your fitting fits well in the hole you drill from the outside before you try to do this from the inside. **Q: Is it safe for vegetable garden since it is not lead-safe compliant?** A: No, they're not. I'm looking for the LF- and potable-water-compliant kit for my vegetable garden, too. I believe that both the hose and fittings are not quite safe. Most garden hoses have warnings now. I'd use this on flowers, but not edibles. They don't have to put the CA Prop 65 notice on lead-free/potable-water-safe products. **Q: Not lead free? Is this ok to water my tomatoes with?** A: If you’re concerned about an extremely small amount of lead that might possibly be getting into your rainwater over the other contaminants in the water from the roof, air, etc. then maybe you shouldn’t have a rain barrel to begin with. Easy to install, easy to use. Its made out of a standard water hose so no questions about its durability. It is flexible enough to bend it a bit if the surfaces of the vessels are not vertical. Doesn't leak but I recommend to use some silicone when bulkhead fittings are installed because the fittings are designed to be used on flat surfaces while the drum's side surface is a cylinder.
