The skimmer was producing suberp skim within 24 hours. My one call-out is that this skimmer relies heavily on your water level, so you will need to make sure your topping off your tank. I reached out to customer service once I thought the skimmer was faulty and they were able to walk me through solutions. Review: Amazing skimmer, while it worked - Currently breaking in this skimmer, all the bubbles are contained in the unit itself so no microbubbles can be transmitted to the tank itself which is a nice plus, as far as skimming goes I'll report back at a later date when its broken in a little more since it's just a bubble generator for now. Edit: Not even a couple days later and its already broken in fully and skimming 100%, no micro bubbles or anything to leak into the main display, adjusting the type of skimmate you want is super simple and user friendly, upgrading my review from a 4 to a 5. Seriously the best nano skimmer you can get for your money as of right now in my opinion. Further edit: a month or two later the skimmer no longer works. The impeller motor that makes the bubbles and sucks air went kaboom inside my tank and I'm extremely displeased. The housing that holds the impeller is completely seized and corroded to the point it can no longer spin freely. Edit of further edit: Contacted the manufacturer, and they are gonna send out a new motor, will update review back to 5 stars if it works properly. Update as of 2/26/20: New motor arrived, works again, hopefully I don't have to replace the motor every couple months, but it's back to skimming and innovative marine atleast tried to make up for the motor. Either overflow or no skim..** A: Take the top part out while it's running. There should be foam. Insert the top part with the lid and stop it right as you see the bottom of the cone start to fill with foam. It will end up funneling through the top and in to the container. It took a while for me to get mine just right. Hope this helps. **Q: How much space is needed above the top of the tank? My tank is under a cabinet.** A: Depending on the size of the tank, no additional space is required. The skimmer can be used inside the tank, or adjusted to higher levels with the included hanging hook. The cup for debris can also have its height adjusted. If you needed it to, the total height can be no more than the stated dimensions. **Q: Does it come with the rock for the bubbles** A: The skimmer comes with the venturi pump to make the bubbles. It does not come with rock. **Q: Will this fit a nuvo 40 compartment in the back? If so which compartment?** A: I have it in compartment two in my nuvo 14.
