They contain celery powder, which is known to carry very high amounts of nitrates naturally. Just a little marketing trick. **Q: why are these so cheap? The Tillamook Smoker website sells this item for 10 $ more than listed here. Are these authentic?** A: They may be authentic but check out the expiration dates. Amazon is selling things that are so close to expiration now it is like a whole different shopping experience. The Starbucks coffee i used to buy about a year ago was super fresh. Now most of the expiration dates are about one to two months away. Actually they are best buy dates, but still...
