Review: warm tone, comfortable to play - These are my favorite flat-wound strings. I use them on my P bass and my fretless Jazz. The steel core is covered by a thick plastic sleeve. The string is perfectly smooth and makes no noise against the frets. Slides are effortless and painless. The tone is very warm and mellow but not thumpy. Paired with good pick-ups there is plenty of articulation and subtlety. It's just pure tone with no unwanted noise. Good for soft-rock, jazz, R & B, etc.
Review: Length, Sound, Feel, Intonation (4 or 5 string set) - Know what you want! Do you want an INDIVIDUAL and more defined warm, fat, steel string sound (D'Addario Chromes), or do you want the duller, broader thump of a nylon (D'Addario Tapewound)that BLENDS IN more with the rest of the sound? If you're not sure, listen to some sound bites on youtube. IF YOU ARE LOOKING for a 'blended' sound; one that blends in with the band or orchestra, these strings will probably make you happy. If you are looking for a sound that presents itself more individually, then these strings are probably not for you. LENGTH: D'Addario, according to their website, put these at 36" from the ball to the thread wrap. ADDITIONALLY, D'Addario DOES NOT list a Super Long Scale set for the Nylon Tapewounds. I measured 36-1/8" on the B string (5-string set) and a little longer on the others. FENDER Jazz V MIM 34" Scale: Strung from the bridge only (not through-the-body), these strings set up with the thread winding only 3/4" - 1" beyond the nut. THEREFORE, I believe that they would BARELY fit a through-the-body 34" or bridge-only 35". Even then, there would be a possibility of a little thread on the fret side of the nut (as is the case with the B string of my Long Scale D'Addario Chromes Flatwound strung through-the-body on my 34" Fender American DLX Jazz V - 1/8" into 1st fret). SOUND: Since these strings have a metal core and are just wrapped with nylon, they do have a defined thump; albeit an obviously softer and much less defined thump than all-steel. FEEL: Flatwounds all have that distinctive smooth feel. You will love the feel of these. INTONATION: Like the Chromes flatwounds, these strings have a different intonation than roundwounds. You will need to set up the intonation when you put this set on your bass. They generally get shorter, from the E, as you go up, and then get longer again for the D and G as you continue up. This is very different from most steel strings which have a consistent intonation 'slant' as you go up. The intonation on these will resemble more of a 'bell curve'. CONCLUSION: If you want an incredibly mellow, blended sound that builds a broad, thick foundation, these are a 5-star choice! If you're looking for individuality and a sound that punches through everything else, don't bother with these b/c you'll just end up rating them poorly.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The g string unwound after only two months of sparse use. the last strings i had lasted for two years. could i get a replacement g string?**
A: April - I am sorry to hear about your trouble. I have had the first set of these tapewounds on my Precision Bass for about 8 months and I play most every day (not that well - but I try) but I have not had problems with loose strings. I am wondering if there is something wrong with your G-string tuning key or perhaps the gears the tuning key connects with. Even on 6-string guitars I have never heard of your guitar's problem. It might not be the answer you want to hear but I do not think it is possible to buy only 1 string - especially these tapewounds (they are not very common). The first thing I would do is check to see if your bass is a long scale or short scale guitar - maybe you got the wrong strings given your instrument (I got short-scale strings for my P-Bass - go to an internet browser and type in your bass make as well as scale (I would type "Precision Bass + scale length" for my guitar). Buy a new set of tapewound wounds (all 4) and take your bass into a shop to have a tech look at your guitar. Ask them to not only look at that G string key and gears but to look at the whole guitar as well as to replace the strings and do a setup. They will check the intonation for you as well. This will cost you, I know, but you want to get your bass sounding best it can which will make you want to play it more. Incidentally - when I have work done on my bass I stay away from large stores but go to smaller independent music shops. I have had much better luck with owner-occupied music shops when it comes to instrument repair than taking it to larger stores which focus more on volume. Good Luck April!

**Q: Can i put these on an acoustic bass?**
A: I use them on a Guild B30 acoustic bass guitar. Acoustically, they're not as loud as bronze round-wound strings, but if you're not playing unplugged and volume isn't an issue and you're not a fan of the twang, these are a nice mellow alternative.

**Q: What is the color of the silk winding ends?**
A: The silk is blue. :o)

**Q: I have bass with a measurement of 39 1/2” from ball end to tuner on low E string. What length has a low E length taper that will work**
A: The scale length is determined by the length of the string from saddle to nut. That is the measurement you need to determine the scale length you need. The most common scale for an electric bass is 34” from saddle to nut, which is called "long scale". "Extra long scale" is considered anything longer than 34”. There is also "medium scale", which is 30"-33”, and "short scale", which is 30” or less. The advantage of the ETB92 strings are, despite being called "long scale", they can comfortably handle a bass scale up to 36 1/4".
