## Description

Product Description Rhodia Notepad, No16 A5, Squared - Orange Set Contains: 1 x Rhodia No16 Orange Pad

Review: Superior paper quality; fantastic for lefties! - Disclaimer: I'm not a big fountain pen person, nor do I write with a pen much at all in the digital age. Thus, while, I am still a bit of a paper snob ;-), I can't speak knowledgeably about other paper options out there except Midori, the high-end Japanese brand that is also prized by many fountain pen users. ABOUT RHODIA GENERALLY: I started using Rhodia paper when I was trying out fountain pens. I kept reading that this paper was superior for its level of absorbability -- it didn't bleed through, yet is less likely to smear which particularly matters to me as a left handed person. Rhodia, being a French company, sells European dimensioned paper — A4, A5, etc.) Most of their pads are “Super fine vellum" 80 gram paper which is just 5 grams heavier than standard US 20 pound bond paper -- think typical copy paper in weight/thickness. However, even though this isn't heavy bond paper, the finish is excellent for the aforementioned reasons. It's very smooth, and the paper fibers have a very fine grain. Thus, less porosity/absorption. Bottom line, it just feels nice, and of quality. Rhodia does offer bound notebooks (I haven't seen one in person), yet they don't seem to offer upscale bound notebooks, which would seem like an obvious market for them due to their superior paper. The bound ones are “faux Italian leather” (which I doubt is any nicer than “Joe Bob’s super-duper faux leather” ;~) — They do come in many cool colors. Some people may prefer, if not a nicer leather bound notebook, at least a pad that's a little more professional/flashier in appearance given the cost, and quality of this paper. This doesn't matter much to me, but to others it night. I like Rhodia’s dot pattered pads. I don't really care that it helps keep the alignment correct when one is writing (if that's even is the intent?); I just like the uniqueness. REGARDING LEFTIES: Normal US spiral-bound notebooks are an annoyance for most of us lefties (or at least me). It helps that this pad has a stapled top as opposed to spiral bound; particularly that it's not spiral-bound on the left unlike standard US notebooks that are indented on the left; thus, lefties can't use those notebooks backwards if one is trying to keep the indent on the left. I remember as a kid when there was a specialty store in San Francisco that had products just for lefties such as scissors. They also had spiral notebooks that have the wire binding on the right so we would still have the indented line of notebook paper on the left when writing. Since it was a niche product, they were really expensive compared to regular notebooks. I think of it as rare to find a pad that has a staples on the top; as stated, that makes it so much easier for lefties IMHO
Review: Great Paper In a Bunch - For those who know about Rhodia, you are probably not reading these reviews. For those who want to know more about Rhodia, there are great things to be said. The paper here is very high quality: rock heavy, silk smooth, and snow white. In other words, these are not the one dollar packet of 100 sheets of paper you would find in a normal office store. While most people won't need it other than the reason that it's a nice luxury, these have profound uses for those who use ink pens. The paper will not feather with any ink! At the same time, it is very absorbent - so much so that the ink won't smudge even though I swipe across it with my fingers almost immediately. Perhaps this is expensive for paper, one may argue. I argue otherwise. I have seen paper of less quality in a thinner notebook that has been more expensive because some gimmick like a faux-leather cover or reinforced binding. This felt just as solid as any of those scams, and had paper I can only dream of in my sleep. On the side note, the dot guides are great. I am practicing my writing on these paper, and it's a delight to be able to divide four squares into four quadrants to really regulate my handwriting. It might be extreme, but it definitely gives more control when you need it - much more than line guides by far. I haven't forgotten the perforations. While it seems silly to comment on something so drab, I cannot rave enough about every aspect of this notepad. How many times have you suffered an unclean edge on a page you tried to take out from a notepad? I doubt it will happen with this one. If it does, it will probably be deliberately done. Fountain and dip pen advocates who haven't heard of this company, take note of paper and pads Rhodia makes. No, this is not your only option, but it sure is a great one. I rarely think any product deserve five stars, but this one takes the cake. Pros: Paper quality is exceptional. Perforations will prevent unclean tears. Dot guides will make writing cleanly a breeze. Binding is study, and the cover is, too. Cons: None at all.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic paper. Useful, versatile, and affordable.
*by T***H on March 4, 2018*

Fantastic paper. Super smooth, resilient, non-absorbent. It's somehow all of these things yet still very light, so it has a delicate and elegant feel. I used a crow quill nib (a dip pen nib specifically made for thin lines which therefore has a needle sharp point and catches on everything, for those who aren't familiar) with very thin fountain pen ink, and the Rhodia is the only paper I could find out of my options that doesn't allow it to bleed and feather to the point of incomprehensibility. The nib didn't catch which I was writing and the lines came out completely clean. Even a heavy, high-quality drawing paper I tried couldn't handle this ink and pen combination, resulting in bleeding and feathering. For comparison there's a piece of normal printer paper. Many of the letters with the printer paper are distorted and smeared because in a single sentence the nib caught 5 times. The ink has bled and feathered to a ridiculous extent, making the writing messy and terrible. Once again, the Rhodia had none of these issues, and remains my standard paper for personal writing, practice, and any finicky pens. For projects I'd recommend a heavier paper only because it's... well... heavier. When I'm making some important document I want a paper that's a little thicker, but that's not what this paper is for and not what I want it to do. The lightness of this paper makes it perfect for things like letters and journaling. I have yet to find a paper that is so effective for penmanship.
