## Questions & Answers

**Q: When I commit arson, I need a lighter that inconspicuous, but still works well enough that I can burn things down on a whim. Is this that lighter?**
A: well i hate to help answer this but no it is not the perfect lighter yes it is perfect key chain sized but has no wind screen so it will not light every time you strike it plus its metal so you can not toss it in the flames if you get caught. Please tell me your joking about this lol.

**Q: Does the lighter have a sealed fuel compartment or will it dry out like a Zippo over a period of time?**
A: Screwed down on the good sized o-ring, this one seems to not evaporate. I can pull it off my key chain after months and it lights. I also have a maratac one that evaporates. The o-ring is all internal on that one though, so I suspect it doesn't seal as well.

**Q: How much does the item weigh? Please provide weight stating if it includes the lighter fluid. Ideally, please provide the weight in grams.**
A: With lighter fluid, 28 grams, or 1 oz., if you are from the US. I also weighed a standard, brass house key and got 7 grams, so the True Utility lighter is like adding 4 brass keys to your key ring. Note that the weight of the included lighter fluid is negligible.

**Q: Where do I put the fluid? I don't want to ruin the wick/lighter by filling the wick out and fill the fluid, is there another way?**
A: the assembly that holds the sparking wheel and wick pulls straight out (although I usually twist it out - it's NOT threaded). The lighter fluid is then applied by holding this assembly upside-down and putting the fluid on the felt (or whatever that white wicking material is).

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic little lighter!
*by R***N on July 13, 2013*

This is the tiniest lighter you will ever find, but it's got a full-sized flame! I love that the o-ring seals the lighter off, so the lighter fluid doesn't evaporate away before you go to use it.I have another tiny pill-case the same size, and the other day, I discovered that it had unscrewed and dropped onto the floor. While this hasn't happened with my lighter, I want to caution anyone who buys it to make sure it stays in a pocket or purse. (I keep my keys on a clip on my belt loop during the day at work). I'm not saying this lighter will unscrew and fall out, just that anything that has threads can work themselves loose with vibration/movement over time, and this is no exception. I have now moved this where it won't be lost if it unscrews. The price was good, and I can't wait until my next hiking trip to surprise my friends with it.Also, a tip that I recommend for anyone who is a "prepper" or wants to purchase this for emergencies, take an extra flint, and put it inside the lighter, on top the felt that absorbs the lighter fluid. Just remember it's there when you go to refill it so it doesn't drop out. This way, if you have an emergency where you are using this alot, you have an extra flint you can install at the ready.I also found a small "fuel storage" cylinder that is slightly larger than the lighter, that also is keyring based. If you're going to use this for hiking, camping, or prepping, I recommend you get that as well, and clip them together. You will have a spare flint, and plenty of fuel for a good amount of time. And of course, you have to test/use both of them BEFORE the emergency or hiking trip. And I would always have a 2nd or 3rd means of starting a fire as a backup...but this is the greatest 1st method!A few safety items:1) Once filled, you won't be able to get this through airport security. So if you keep it on your key ring and forget about it, it will be confiscated. Also, even empty, they might take it. It's small enough, if you need it when you get there, mail it ahead of time to yourself for "general delivery" at a post office...but it will still have to be unfilled (never filled) with lighter fluid!2) Don't ever use gasoline in this. Gasoline is explosive.3) This isn't a toy, (not for kids obviously) and since it is small with a full-size flame, it will get hot quick. Light what you have to light quickly and blow it out!4) If you clip this on your belt loop or backpack, make sure it is tucked in a pocket as well so it doesn't unscrew and get lost.Oh, and the water-resistant case that they ship it in is fantastic! It isn't super heavy-duty rugged, but it's perfect for using inside your pack to keep stuff dry, say some emergency kindling, or some medications. It helps offset the $10 price and make this item a good value.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ True Utility Firestash Keyring Lighter
*by W***S on March 12, 2012*

I just recently got this lighter and have been very pleased with its quality (so far)...I like these better than the Zippo lighters because of the "O-ring" seal that keeps the lighter fluid from evaporating and being useless when you need it. I have this on my keychain and have found that lighter fluid last 10 times as long and is smaller to carry. I will update this review as needed.Update 10-10-12: I still carry this utility keyring lighter on my key chain. It does eventually run out of fluid (go figure), but it does provide you with a spark at any time if you need it. I still prefer a good ol "Bic" or a fire steel of some sort, but it is useful. This product is good for an everyday carry (if you are good to re-fill it from time to time). The only way that it makes sense to put this in some kind of pack or emergency bug out bag, is if you also pack some fluid for it.Would I buy another one? No, one is enough......maybe if I were a smoker, but I don't smoke...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Keychain Essential
*by K***G on May 18, 2011*

Let's face it, everyone loves fire. The firestash just makes it much easier to bring the benefits of the flame with you wherever you choose to go. I carry one on my keychain and will continue to do so for as long as it lasts.Once you fill this thing up it will consistantly produce a light. Simply pull up on the striker and the internal fluid storage pod will slide right out, offering storage for the lighter fluid. Spin that wheel with your finger and you will have your fire. Conveniently, you may use all the same parts as a zippo, the flint, wicks, and lighter fluid. This significantly prolongs the life of this lighter as well, it is not disposable by any means. However, this offers one HUGE advantage over a zippo besides its tiny size, it won't dry out on you when you need it. It is sealed water tight with an 0-ring so no moisture can't get in or out unless you want it to. Mind you, do not take this think diving or submerge it for any great length of time. It is water-resistant, not completely waterproof. The finish on this lighter seems rugged and able to withstand the test of time. Yes, it will scratch on a keychain, but it will only be a minor surface blemish and only give it character and prove you use the thing. However, there are downsides to this product. Its small size limits the amount of fluid and consequently, the amount of use you will get without refilling. In addition, the botton of the lighter is rounded off and will not stand on a surface if needed. If you needed two hands to perform a task while needing a light as well, this lighter will have to be propped up somehow. Also, i didn't like the "squared off" keyring, but I don't like any chrome keyrings as they chip and diminish over time. But, this problem is easily fixed with gateclips, carabiners, or other more rugged keyrings.Overall, its a great little lighter. However, the ones sold at countycomm.com are better in my opinion. They have a flat bottom so it can stand and are made of a 300 series stainless steel (a medical quality metal). They even show them being run over repeatedly by a 35,000 pound fire truck and still light up perfectly with no damage at all. About the same price too. But, I still like to give amazon the business as they have been good to me over the years. This is certainly a quality product and excellent choice for a keychain EDC (everday carry).
