Only a month after getting this sheild I was turning a 4" thick, 10" diameter piece of Oak that weighed close to 5 lbs. I'm an experienced turner and know the do's and don'ts of turning so I was practicing the necessary safety precautions. I was taking one last light cut and apparently I had a "catch" because the next thing I know this chunk of Oak smacks me square across the face. Had I not been wearing my Bionic, I would have needed medical attention. The Bionic successfully deflected the piece AND stayed atop my head in the process. There are a few sctraches in the middle of the shield, but the shield is still fully functional. And there is no damage to the frame or head piece. Even if it had been damaged I would gladly and rapidly replace it with another Bionic. My other face shield is the more traditional non-framed type often used by woodturners. While these are better than nothing, the lack of a frame makes them more flimsy and susceptable to flexing under such an impact and I would likely have left with a bloody nose. Sorry Mr. Tobia , I couldn't resist. **Q: Can you wear a respirator under the shield ?** A: Answering this, as I had the same question, and just tried them. It easily fit the paper 95N type respirator with cool valve. For the other, rubbery mask type with changeable filters, it fit with the round 100P pink cartridges, as they are lower profile. It had maybe half inch to an inch of clearance from cartridge to lens. Since the exhaust shoots down, I hope the lens won't fog up, but we'll see. It did not fit with the organic compound cartridges used for solvents, as those hit the shield before closing halfway. Test was done with shield at lowest setting. **Q: Does it protect the neck? Also does it stay put if flipped up & is that what the ratcheted piece is for)?** A: It does cover the neck better than any other face shield I've used over the last 15 years and it stays right where you want it. Has a nice thick cushion on the head strap and is also the most comfortable head gear I've worn. It is now my go to face protection over regular safety glasses. Wish I would of bought one sooner. I use it all the time in my shop. Very sturdy. **Q: would this work well with airsofting?** A: I would say no. It's very large, and not really designed for staying in place while doing lots of physical activity. I used it for about 4 hours so far . It protect good coverage . I use it for weedwacking yards. The shield get dirty fast and it is worth it. Just got to clean it . The only minus star is for the rash/ache that cause on my forehead. My advise is to wash it before wearing the face shield . Also i can not wear my head muffs at the same time to listen to music.
