First off, the gloss black finish is gorgeous—sleek and neutral, it blends effortlessly with the rest of my kitchen, even though I don’t have a retro-themed space. It has that vintage charm Smeg is known for, but still feels perfectly at home in a more modern, contemporary setting. Functionally, it’s just as impressive. The range of browning levels is spot on—I can go from lightly toasted to deeply golden with total consistency. What really stood out for me, though, is the bagel function. I love to toast everything bagels, that has garlic and other seasonings on the side, and with other toasters I’ve ended up with burnt, bitter garlic more times than I can count. But this one toasts just the cut side, leaving the outside warm but not burnt, so no acrid or acidic taste—just perfect every time.
