The bell is blue with an orange plastic top. There is a deck of round cards that are a little difficult to shuffle because of their shape, but with some practice you can shuffle them as good as you can a regular deck. The rule book is an accordion style book the same shape of the tin.Gameplay: The game is multi-tiered. The object is to gain the most cards in a similar fashion to the classic card game “War”. Each player is dealt 10 cards. In turn each player will place a card face up. In a basic game, players will watch to see if the colors or numbers on the cards match. If you do see a match, be the first one to clap & ring the bell. There are also “Ring It” cards & “Trick” cards. They look almost completely identical except for the skull and crossbone ring around the edge and below the bell. The “Ring It” cards should be treated like any other matching set, because you have to have a matching “Ring It” card. The “Trick” card is there to trick you into thinking there is a “Ring It” card in play.DO NOT clap and ring the bell if you flip it. If you do you will get penalized. If you make a mistake by ringing, but forgetting to clap or clapping & ringing for the “Trick card, all face up cards in play get discarded & you also have to discard 3 more cards.Once one person runs completely out of cards he round ends. All players count the number of cards in hand and whomever has the most cards wins.There are 2 other ways we found to make this more interesting. 1. Use the ring it cards as “Wild” cards. 2. Separate the whole deck among the players and play it like a standard game of “War”There are advanced rules that allow you to use the characters in the outside ring and there are 4 other rules variations in the rule book.Yes/No Recommend: This game is really fun. It’s a great way to teach color, number, pattern recognition, hand-eye coordination, & basic motor skills. One of the things I like most about this game is watching adults struggle to match the colors & numbers faster than children do.The downsides are that eventually the bell sound starts to wear on you, but by then break out a different game & because of the perfect cut of the rule book, do not place it in the bottom of the tin. If you do you run the risk of ripping it when trying to remove it from the tin.Something we encourage is to tinker with the game and see if you can find new ways to play the game. The bell has taken a lot of beating, still works like new. The object is to win the most cards.The game is simple: Each player turns up one card from his face down pile. As you go around the table, all players are looking for any two cards that have something that matches - color, number, or symbol. As soon as you see a match you clap and ring the bell. First one who does this gets all the face up cards from each player. If you forget to clap or to ring, you don't win. If you were mistaken about the match, you don't win. If the match you clapped and rang for has a skull and cross bones, you don't win. The penalty for mistakes is that all the face-up cards are removed from play and the player who goofed pays a three card penalty.So far, we've eliminated the penalty for claiming cards if there is no match or if they have the skull and cross bones. But our grandson will be five in April so we'll probably add that in this summer.To keep the game moving, we often deal out all the cards before we start. The instructions encourage you to make up your own variations on the clap and ring requirement. Perhaps clap, clap, ring, or stand-up, sit-down and ring....whatever you think of to add to the fun.
