Review: Perfect Soft Brush for Convertible Top !!!! - I bought this brush for gently shampooing my cloth convertible top where SOFT is critical to prevent 'roughing up' the fabric and causing it to slightly break down the threads thus causing a 'fuzzy' look. All of the experts strongly recommend a horse hair or other soft animal bristle brush for this application, however, every review of those brushes complained about shedding to the degree where trying to remove all the horse hair from the fabric top was a major problem. In addition to those reviews, I personally examined several brands of horse hair brushes at various retailers and none of them passed the shed test. (I don't recall horse hair brushes doing this many years ago, so could the shedding be due to the fact none of the brushes I found were made on this continent? Not sure.) So I looked for the softest man made fiber brush I could find and found this one. I was familiar with Star Brite since I use many Star Brite products on my boat including a brush a two. The quality of Star Brite brushes is outstanding and as best I could tell all of their products are manufactured in the U.S. Their catalog states, "Star brite® Products are proudly manufactured in the U.S.A." Their brushes are strong and will not fall apart. In my boat application I've had other brushes where the bristles broke down from prolonged UV exposure and literally crumpled all over the place during use. My Star Brite brushes do not seem to do this - I've never had the bristles on a Star Brite brush crumple/fall apart from UV. The bristles on this specific brush have very soft flagged ends that will not harm delicate materials such as my cloth convertible top. Because of the combination of the bristle length and flagged ends this brush holds an ample amount of the cleaning solution to deliver it where needed when cleaning. I highly recommend this brush where light/delicate scrubbing action is needed. For cleaning harder more durable surfaces where stronger cleaning action is needed try Star Brite brushes with stiffer bristles. Again, this soft brush is for light cleaning of more delicate surfaces such as fabrics or soft vinyl/plastic. Note: Even using this very soft brush on my cloth top, I am still very careful and scrub very gently to prevent scuffing the threads thus causing a fuzzy look !!! A soft brush to clean my convertible fabric top that won't damage the fabric top. 2. A brush that won't leave behind the fibers or hairs of the brush 3. A brush that still provides adequate cleaning. I too had looked at a horse hair brush and also found one review after another where those who purchased and used it were really unhappy because the hairs fell out of the brush and stuck in to their tops. They then had to spend a lot of time plucking them out.. something I wanted to avoid! So I decided to buy this Star Brite brush, which came quickly and was in fact very soft with the ends already frayed. It may not be horse hair soft, but it felt like it should be soft enough to not fray the fabric of my top. The brush has two holes for using with a pole if desired. I used 303 fabric cleaner along with the brush and all seemed to be going well. I got a nice foam from the brush but all the while it seemed to be soft enough for my top and of course I applied gentle pressure.. Then I rinsed the car and to my surprise, lots and lots of little yellow pieces of the brush stuck to my top. Seriously?? So I rinsed again and again, but they weren't going anywhere. I had to pull out a lint roller and after about 15 minutes of using that, I was able to get every last little piece out. Minor inconvenience I suppose but it is for that, that I give but 4 stars. Now having said that, I noticed that the area where I started using the brush was MUCH worse than where I ended the cleaning. Perhaps when you get this, it may be a good idea to get it wet and rub it on a towel or something for a while - perhaps it only sheds right out of the box on the first use. Time will tell as to how it holds up - this was only my first time using it. Overall it did the job and the shedding, while irritating, was not the end of the world.
