Excellent Results. *by J***T on Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2018* Update, 9-23-20The MX-2 is still working great.The T1600 had very poor ventilation. After applying the MX-2, and at 100% utilization, the Xeon chip would sometimes approach 155F during the warmest of the Summer months. That's just a tad high, but other components were also running hot. So I replaced the CPU fan and the rear case fan. Also added a fan to the front. Now the CPU ranges from 129F to 140F at 100% utilization, depending on ambient temps - comfortably within the recommended temp rage. (The fans also do a great job at keeping other components cool.)Although not the only improvement needed for my server, for me the MX-2 was instrumental in bringing down temps in my T1600. I've since used this thermal paste in other computers, with similar results.Excellent Stuff. Still Recommended!------------------------------------------------------------------Original Review, 7-8-18I bought a 2nd hand Dell T1600 with an Intel Xeon E3-1245 processor on eBay and thoroughly cleaned it out before using. This computer likely came from a server farm where it received constant heavy use, but that's what these models were made for and it now makes a very good Plex server. When digitizing my DVD collection CPU use immediately lept to 100%, with temperatures reaching 180F to 190F (ambient temp mostly irrelevant). To get the chip temp down to under 160F I had to reduce the affinity for Handbrake from all 8 CPU's to just 1 CPU as I didn't want to cause permanent damage to the chip. Of course that significantly increased the time needed to digitize a movie.After removing the CPU cooler I found (what must have been) the original thermal paste resembled very hard and dry toothpaste. After cleaning the surfaces and applying the Arctic MX-2, CPU temperatures now hover around 150F at 100% utilization on all 8 CPU's at 72F ambient. With ambient temps reaching the low 90's, CPU temps never quite reach 160F - which is well within the tolerance for this chip. And that's with the stock CPU cooler and case fan - and the poor cooling circulation that Dells are known for.Highly recommended. Excellent product. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for what I needed *by E***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2019* My 6 year old laptop was having problems with the video driver crashing under heavy load and I eventually determined it was the video card. While replacing it with a spare, I noticed that the factory heatsink compound was all dried out and probably not doing it's intended job well at all. I used Arctic compound on both the video card as well as the CPU while putting it all back together and it was very easy to apply and seems to be doing a much better job of keeping things cool. Maybe I didn't even need to replace the video card in the first place!Note that a little goes a long way, so no need to buy more than you need. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars good stuff - easy to use *by G***X on Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2012* I've been using MX-2 for nearly a year now and am very impressed with it. It's very easy to apply and spread - and works very well. It seems to be a perfect balance of cost vs effectiveness. It's a 'high quality' thermal paste - yes there are probably 'better' compounds that may benchmark slightly better, but in the real world, this will work just as well as any other, as long as you install and apply it properly. I used to use Arctic Silver 5, but I won't go back. MX-2 is less expensive, easier to spread, and has a better shelf life (AS5 will 'harden' over time, making it harder to apply). AS5 is not bad - it is also a 'high quality' compound, but MX-2 is a newer formula and is simply better.
