## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are the teeth designed for cross cut or rip cut?  Or are they cross cut with flat faces in the direction of cutting?**
A: The saw arrives with teeth filed for cross cutting.  Spear and Jackson markets this saw as all purpose rip and crosscutting and the saw will indeed do both well.  The teeth are easily modified to a rip pattern if you have a saw file.  One last thing to keep in mind is that these saws are frequently over-set, meaning the teeth are set a bit too far perpendicular to the blade.  This problem can be rectified in a matter of seconds by tapping the teeth between two hammer heads along the length of the blade.  With 10 minutes of work re-sharpening and relaxing the set, the saw will perform rip cuts or crosscuts as well as saws that cost 3 times as much.

**Q: Any suggestions for cleaning the coating off the blade?  I have a few ideas but I'm looking for the best and quickest way.**
A: the coating on the saw is most likely lacquer to protect against rust and I would not take it off personally. I would just wax the blade with any type of floor wax or other was and let the coating wear off with use. Most handsaws will rust on the blade in you don't wax or wd40 it regularly.

**Q: Is this a rip saw, or crosscut saw?**
A: Its a Fleam cut saw meaning it will crosscut and rip. It does crosscut faster than it rips, but will do both.

**Q: how do you sharpen these saws after you use for awhile?**
A: This saw is not one that has hardened teeth.  It can be sharpened with a triangular saw file.  Takes me about 15 min.  Easy to do.
