Review: Unbelievablely good for the price. Very recommended if you cannot afford a real Shure SM57 - Ordered as "open box". Arrived pretty fast. The box had seen better days and you could tell that it was more than just "open box". Probably should have been listed as "used" just to be a little more accurate/honest, but that is okay because at the time of purchase, it was only $15 and I have to say, that's a REALLY good deal, even used. Most people will compare this to the Shure SM57 and rightfully so. It is similar enough that if you were to remove the brand/model name off of them, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this mic and a Shure SM57. The main differences I can see is the soldering isn't quite as good in this mic vs the SM57. Also, the SM57 just sort of "feels" a little more "premium", so to speak, but that isn't to say this mic feels cheap either. The housing does seem to be made of decent enough quality of some kind of aluminum alloy, so in theory, it should be able to handle a fair bit of abuse, but I do recommend giving a couple of the solder joints a quick touch-up, if you know how to use a soldering iron. Not a big issue, just helps to make it a little more capable of handling the future abuse it will be going through over the next few years. The sound quality is surprisingly good. It's on par with what Pyle is going for, a low cost SM57 clone, to my ears anyway. I'm sure there are some slight differences if you put it "under a 'scope" between this and a real Shure SM57, but at the same time, it's within range. Even two Shure SM57 mics aren't going to sound EXACTLY the same and that is about the difference between this mic and a Shure SM57.... They really nailed it with this mic, imo. So far, I have found that it works great to mic your guitar amp speaker/speaker cab and it also works really well for vocals too, which surprised me a bit. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is for vocals, but it is pretty good... It shines as a mic for guitar amp tho, imo. I barely need to eq it to get it sounding JUST RIGHT, and that is a massive upgrade to me vs what I had been using.
Review: The quality exceeds this price point. - The microphone works well, sounds great ,is versatile and is very durable with its metal case. The cable has good strength and length however is very quiet, get a slightly nicer cable. Super easier to use no extra bits and pieces. It is slightly lighter than a real sm57 but looks identical.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where is it manufactured?**
A: Hi,

I'm Martin and I work for Pyleaudio.

This PDMIC78 is being manufactured in China. Rest assure that all our products are quality tested and 100% working units.

If you have other questions, please let me know. You can reach me at martint@pyleusa.com.

Thank you for choosing Pyle.

**Q: Is this a balanced or unbalanced mic?**
A: i believe these mics come soldered with pins 1&3 together, which makes it unbalance. To make it a balance signal you will have to unsolder pins 1&3 Which can be done fairly easy.

**Q: Is this a good microphone for making youtube videos?**
A: This microphone was, without a doubt, the worst mic I have ever owned. I had to send it back it was so terrible.

**Q: Is a mic stand clip included?**
A: No

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just as good as a 57 in it's own way.
*by G***H on April 2, 2026*

In my opinion, it's as close to an actual SM57 as you can get. Not to mention that its extremely affordable. Solid metal housing with a metal grill at the mouth piece. Sound wise, it's really really close to the real thing, but a bit hight on the treble it picks up... and some people might actually find that a plus. In many ways, its almost identical to a real 57...just picks up some frequencies differently. So i wouldn't go as far as to so it not as good as a real 57, it's just slightly different and just as good in it'sown ways. I use this mostly for micing my amp for recording and some vocals here and there. As for the recording quality when recording an amp, it fits my needs just fine. There are so many factors at play when recording like this, but I would say that placement and proximity are key depending what type of situation your in...and also key to getting different sounds from the same amp. Usually I'll do a track with the mic pointed a hair off dead center of the cone of the speaker, with the volume level set to about rehearsal levels. Then i'll do another track with the mic about 5 to 10 feet away to capture some natural reverb to create some space at about the same volume level. then I'll mix then down to a single track and repeat as needed. Its actually a very versatile mic and I was very surprised with the quality for the price. It has a good solid build and weight to it and even included and XLR to 1/4" cord about 15 foot long, which so far has not shown any signs of loss of signal. But make no mistake, it's not a Shure SM57 and I don't think it tries to be other than in appearance. But it is a very good and affordable comparison to it. Do I think it will last years and years of wear and tear? Probably not due to the very fragile wiring inside, but if you take the time to resolder every connection and take good care of it, who knows...maybe it could last for many years. But unlike a real 57 that you know is an industry workhorse, this one has a long way to go to earn that type of reputation. Possible, but only time will tell. Either way, if you're looking for decent quality at a really good price, you can't beat this mic. If I was more into recording live drums, I would get 3 to 6 and feel pretty confident they could get the job done. One is all i need for now, but if i find myself needing more mics, I will definitely look for these before the other "look-alike" budget brands.
