Color stays on page but wipes off table...for example?** A: They are exactly like regular crayons, just differently shaped. I found they were really soft and snapped in my toddlers grasp. **Q: are these crayons more durable** A: Yes and no. The tips break off easily but the rest have been pretty durable. We have had two sets of these crayons for at least 6 months; they are used regularly, mostly while traveling. We only have one broken crayon (not counting tips). The part I get frustrated with is the papers slide on them a lot. They make great crayons for use in restaurants since they won't roll off the table. That was our main reason for getting them. **Q: Would these be good for a 1 year old?** A: I think I would probably stick to the large round ones for a 1 year old. I think these are more for trying to teach writing technique, and a one year old isn't really ready for that yet, they're just gonna fist it and scribble.  Hope this helps! **Q: My crayons arrived with a thin film of white sand/crystal-looking film on the top of the crayons.
