It WILL let you do subtitles. I'm not sure how closed captioning is done -- if it is taken from the audio or what -- but the subtitles is the closest that this version comes to it. If you want to create your own captions, you can, but it will likely involve a good amount of typing. **Q: how to get rid of the black advert message on bottom of recording in paid for product - and no sensible answer from tech support. what rubbish** A: To be honest, I use NCH software as little as possible because I have found free alternatives that are equal or superior. If the maker is not interested in helping one who has paid for their software, then I am afraid that you are out of luck. My advice is to forget about NCH and look for another video editor, free or paid. I own older NCH software and I cannot use it because it refuses the original license keys I got when I paid for it. The price of NCH programs is affordable compared to others and customer service is superb. It does require some learning but that is to be expected with any technical program. I do not agree with people complaining about cost or functionality. Any other program with more features will be a lot more complicated to use and be more costly. I hope that at the end of this I will be able to burn a playable DVD to treasure my trip. This software is UNSTABLE and way too complicated for anyone to get anywhere. Don't waste your time or money with this piece of garbage! The tech caused me to get into a situation that would further chop up my movie and he told me. 'we don't have the time to tutor our clients with BASIC levels like this?'. Basic levels????
